Are you tired of your dark wood cabinets? Your green laminate counter is nauseating? Do you lack brightness for cooking? It’s time to transform your kitchen!

The kitchen is one of the busiest rooms: people cook, talk to each other, children do their homework, and so on. No wonder this is the decisive piece when buying a house! However, no need to spend tens of thousands of dollars to revamp. Small, inexpensive changes can make all the difference!

1. PAINT THE CABINETS

Are your wardrobes faded? Their color does not suit you anymore? Nothing more simple: paint them! Whether in wood or melamine, no painting classes are needed to complete this work. Follow the next few steps and observe the result!

Remove the handles and hinges. Decide at the same time if you change the handles. In this case, choose them before painting your cabinets since it is possible that you have to fill up the old holes using a filler.
Clean doors with a degreaser such as Trisodium Phosphate Powder (TSP) or Acetone.
Sand using a sandblaster and 80 grit sanding paper.

Apply an oil primer to the surfaces. Allow the recommended time to dry, depending on the product.
Put two or three coats of floor or melamine paint of the desired color. Let each layer dry well.
Reinstall the doors, handles, and hinges and admire the result!
And now, voila! You have revamped your kitchen in a few brushstrokes and without breaking the bank!

2. CHANGE THE LIGHTING

Are you tired of your tarnished ceiling light? Do you want to showcase your kitchen? Bet on the three types of lighting: general, functional and ambiance.

The kitchen being multifunctional, the lighting must adapt to each situation. It is important to plan your lighting according to your needs and habits.

The general lighting must be powerful enough to light the entire room. If you have a high enough ceiling, rely on hanging fixtures that you can install on the center island. If not, opt for embedded light sources, such as small spots. Also remember to install a dimmer, which allows you to control the intensity of light, ideal for dark winter mornings or quiet evenings.

Functional lighting is used to optimize the tasks performed in the kitchen: cooking, washing dishes, etc. Bet on recessed lights in appliances, for example in the hood, or over the sink. Once again, a dimmer will reduce lighting as soon as tasks are completed.

Ambient lighting gives your kitchen a friendly look. You can install lights in your glass cabinets and highlight their contents. You can also opt for directional spots pointing to certain objects to highlight them.

During your renovations, do not succumb to the temptation to prioritize design at the expense of convenience. Indeed, the kitchen is first and foremost a place where you prepare your meals; so you have to see what you are doing to avoid accidents. Also, avoid installing colored lights that will quickly tire you. Opt for a more sober atmosphere; your kitchen is not a disco!

3. INSTALL A CENTRAL ISLAND

You cook and are always back to your guests? Do you miss a work plan? Do you want more storage space? A central island is a solution!

Put in a dining area with stools and cook surrounded by family and friends! Add cabinets and drawers and increase your storage space. Install a hot plate and make a cooking show worthy of Asian restaurants! The possibilities are endless, regardless of your cooking style!

Its installation must be thought and calculated; you must be able to move around the island and everything must be operational. To do this, allow a clearance of at least one meter all around the island and 1.2 m if you have a dishwasher. For shape, height, and features, it depends on you and your needs.

If you wish to install a cooking plate or sink in your center island, you will need to check the availability of water, electricity and gas connections as well as get all the necessary tools. To hide the sewage pipes and electrical cables, you can either break the floor and redo the screed or raise the kitchen space. You understand that this will increase your renovation costs, but such facilities can be practical.
